Get a taste of the Australian High Country by visiting the Aranda Snow Gums, some of the last survivors of a circle of snow gums that went around the frosty flats of the Molonglo River. Visit on a wintery morning and take photos of the spiderwebs covered in dew or frost. Follow the Frost Hollow to Forest Walk which has interpretative signs showing different plants and animals found in the reserve. Take some magnifying glasses to observe up close the Snow Gum bark and leaves. Join in a working bee to reduce weeds or planting native grasses, get in touch with the Friends of Aranda Bushland to find out more. This is a fragile area so leave the leaves on the trees and the flowers on the ground. Take a picnic blanket and read “The Snow Wombat” by Susannah Chambers to under 5’s, a picture book about a Wombat in the High country looking for a warm burrow.
