New grants available for programs focused on nature play

A $20,000 grants program for new or existing projects that support active living and increase community participation in nature-based outdoor activities and events opened today.

Whilst sport will always be a popular means of physical activity for adults and children, competitive participation is not to everyone’s taste. The Nature Play Grants Program supports the diverse network of community organisations that provide quality experiences that attract and encourage use, exploration and appreciation of our natural areas and play spaces consistent with the ACT Government’s Recreation Vision, Connecting and Building Recreation: a vision for the Territory.

The ACT Government is committed to ensuring there are plenty of opportunities for Canberrans to participate in active recreation and play to enrich their everyday lives.

Enjoying time in nature is integral to our health and wellbeing. The Nature Play Grants Program will support participation in active lifestyles, particularly for children and young people, by providing funding for organisations delivering outdoor nature-based activities through investment in areas such as equipment, promotions, training and small capital projects.

Applications for the Nature Play Grants Program will close on 14 October 2016. For more information and to apply visit the Active Canberra website at www.sport.act.gov.au.
